Talk:Piracy

From PHWiki

I don't consider it to be illegal. You guys are not charging people money. So, it's not illegal.

It's only illegal if you charge people money, right? Rocket2000 15:48, 5 November 2006 (CST)

Please define "it" and "you guys" to clarify what you are trying to say. --Dantheman 23:41, 5 November 2006 (CST)
By "it" i meant piracy, and by "you guys" i, uh, assumed, the people who run Pocket Heaven? Rocket2000 04:18, 6 November 2006 (CST)
I wasn't aware that the legality of PocketHeaven was ever in question, at least not recently. As far as I know, it's generally assumed that since PH only provides information about piracy, and does not actually supply sources for obtaining anything, that everything is fine. However, are you claiming that piracy itself is legal? Or just PocketHeaven and similar sites? You see, I'm confused as to exactly what you're trying to say. --Dantheman 14:40, 6 November 2006 (CST)

Pocketheaven does not distribute anything besides *information* and we do not charge money for anything either. You sound very confused Rocket2000. See the wiki policies PHWiki:Policies#Copyright_Infringment and further the rules and expanded rom policy on the boards http://www.pocketheaven.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=7 , http://www.pocketheaven.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=3153
That all being said, the article we're talking about on this talk page states: "Piracy is the unauthorized copying and distribution of copyrighted works." The word "illegal" is not mentioned, only "unauthorized", which piracy certainly is. Unauthorized distribution of copyrighted material can be illegal even with no money involved. It depends which country you're in and probably on the extent of the distribution. But I'm not a lawyer and if you really want to know for sure you should ask one. --Titney 18:50, 6 November 2006 (CST)
