SNEmulDS Compatibility List

This is the compatibility list for SNEmulDS, an SNES emulator developed and ported to the DS by Archeide. When editing, copy and paste the first row's data (all empty cells) to use as a generic template.
Also, when adding a game to the list, make sure that you at least put it in the chart. You can add additional notes if you want, but it is necessary to put it in the chart.
As of v0.4 Beta, a new chart has been created to reflect the growing number of changes in the various options of SNEmulDS. Once a game is confirmed to work in a version newer than v0.4 Alpha, add it to the new chart and remove its entry in the old chart.
Testing Tips
Some games work best when the DS has been freshly rebooted. Oftentimes, they will freeze if you load them after playing another game, so while one solution is to disable sound, rebooting the DS will usually make the game work as normal. When a game freezes, please check whether either of the two solutions unfreeze it before reporting it as "unplayable" in the below chart.
Easily add games to the compatibility list using the new SNEmuIDS Wiki Editor tool updated for versions up to v0.5 Alpha 2. There is now a web version too. DO NOT USE WITH V0.5 BETA OR NEWER

Notes for Specific Games
Actraiser
Ingame works and looks great, but the world map is seriously garbled. Unless you now exactly where each town is, it's pretty much unplayable past the first level. Title screen is black because of Mode 7.
Adventures of Batman and Robin (U)
Use settings of 3333 for most in-game usage, switching to 2301 to see text. There are some graphical glitches that don't render the game unplayable but make it difficult to play on the first time through.
Alien vs. Predator

Apple Seed
Audio is missing, and there's no HUD, but it seems fairly playable.
Arcade's Greatest Hits - The Atari Collection 1
To start the game, hold the Start button until you get in-game. With Asteroids and Super Breakout, set to No Vblank, the others are fine with Wait Vblank. Tempest is nearly unplayable but the others are fine.

Mode7 scrolling works as of v0.5 Beta
Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
In v0.5 Beta, it flickers too often to tell what your sprite is doing any any given moment. With older versions, it's playable, though you must use No Vblank in Tile mode.
Bio Metal
Cannot see HUD, game still playable.
Black Hawk / Black Hawk
Sound must be disabled to boot game. Appears to work fine otherwise.
Breath of Fire
Sound must be disabled for the game to boot.
BS Zelda
Sound must be disabled for the game to boot. It takes some trickery to get in-game, as it sometimes freezes at this point. Changing speedhacks to "full" might help in this situation, as might rebooting the DS.

Chaos Engine, The
(0.5 Alpha2) Save states didn't work for me (GBAMP with CF card), the game refuses to run after loading a state. But you can still use the save state to record the password screen! :)
Also you can't see the text after pressing start at the beginning:
- 1st screen: 1st option is One Player & CPU, 2nd option is Two players (not possible I'd imagine!)
- 2nd screen: 1st option is New Game, 2nd option is Enter Password.
The password entry screen works fine.
Chrono Trigger
Layers of 2/0/3/1 needed for some backgrounds to look good, but you have to switch back to Auto for battles. Appears to work well from the limited amount of time that was spent testing it. Sounds excellent when default snemul.cfg file is used
Playable. On Auto, sometimes sprites appear on top of trees/walls [can't seem to get a configuration to make it work correctly]. Text appears darkened and old text lingers sometimes. Menu is garbled, but useable. During battle, some attacks have glitched animations. Sound works well with default.
(0.6 Edition) I have played through the whole game without a single freeze caused from the game itself. Don't try to save state immediately after you exit a battle, wait until you have control of your characters or a text box finishes. In Zeal (hope I haven't spoiled something for ya :P) you have to play around with the background layer settings (I'll get the actual numbers as soon as possible) and there are some other areas like this (ie: Magus's first battle has some weird fog which takes up the whole screen). Most of the problems above still happen as listed above, but the game is obviously playable.
clouds will "clip" (near middle) if you have "no scaling" turned on. However does not impact gameplay. Will update as I play the game. Don't let the few issues scare you, this is a great game

Demon's Crest
When an option is selected from start menu the game freezes. WORKS with v0.5b+
Donkey Kong Country
Speedhacks have little effect on the DKC series, so leave it at No Speedhack the entire time. Layers should be set to 2/0/3/1 in the temple levels in order to see the giant wheels, and the "sprite4: 0" setting should be enabled as per the chart in order to make the gophers appear in the wheels correctly.
Donkey Kong Country 2
Appears to work correctly in v0.5 Beta, though it sometimes slows down a bit when there's lots of action on the screen due to the paging system. You can switch to No Vblank to speed it up, though this may make the speed faster than 100%. Potential graphical corruption can be fixed by tapping the "fix" area in the GFX Config menu.
Donkey Kong country 3
In the v0.5 alphas and betas, it sometimes crashes upon entering a level, like the "Tyrant Twin Tussle" level in the Lost World. Nearly every level does boot though, and those that don't will work in v0.4. Again, there might be some graphical corruption which can be fixed by the area in the GFX Config menu.
The seaside levels tend to be slow due to HDMA, so setting it to No Vblank will run it at about fullspeed, a little faster.
Change priorities to 2103 for the winter levels
Earthbound
v.5b-Boss battles suffer from very bad graphical glitches, but if you simply goto GFX config, then hit the (auto on/off) button in the middle right of the screen, they are playable, but PSI attacks arn't displayed correctly still. Game crashes are very minimal, and text is now displayed correctly. A minor problem is that there are some layering issues, with the sprites appearing on top of everything always, but overall the game is fine and completely playable.
Equinox
Mode 7 issues on the world map, but you can see dungeons/enemies. Scrolling issues durring action scenes. Runs slow.
E.V.O Search for Eden
v0.5b - Graphical glitches during opening scene, some bgs. Playable throughout game. v0.4b - Freezes with speedhacks turned on, but runs fast without. First level BG and other scrolling shimmies.
Final Fantasy 2
v0.5a2 - When entering stores, cannot view text and unable to no matter which layer you choose.(in 0.6a, set scaling to medium/fullscale, if you access any store, you will find that the store menu is viewable and if you check your menu after you have visited a store(do not fix graphics!) you will find that your menu is much more better than before)
Final Fight 3
v0.4Final - When playing with Auto 2P play the speed of the emulator can drop quite a bit with the above setup. Be warned! :)
Flashback
When you launch the ROM, the game seems to crash on the Sony logo. You have to go in the options and set "Full speed hacks" on (the speed meter should say something around 450-500%). Then wait a few seconds (it can be quite long, up to 30 seconds), then the Delphine Software sequence begins. You'll have to wait like this for the intro cinematic too, and immediately when the title screen appears. After that, just put the Options back as written on the compatibility list, and start a new game. Except of a minor issue with the background layer, it should work remarquably well now. :)
Illusion of Gaia
The game works best in version 0.4 Beta. In 0.4 Final, it runs too slow when using Wait Vblank and too fast when using No Vblank. The same is true for v0.5 Beta except that SNEmulDS sometimes randomly crashes in this version. Therefore, v0.4 Beta is recommended, so use the settings from the appropriate chart above.
For v0.4 Beta:
Keep Wait Vblank on the entire time and just adjust the speedhacks as required. For best results, turn all speedhacks off until you get in-game. Use Interrupt speedhacks for normal in-game walking and fighting, and use cycles speedhacks for when you're traveling the world map.
In order to execute Will's charge attack (which you learn later in the game) you must hold A+B instead of just A. Reason is unknown.
Indiana Jones' Greatest Adventures
Must change settings to "wait vblank" with both backgrounds on in order to prevent the background from covering up the sprites. Speed is slow at 50%. Other graphical issues remain. The only sound effect that works is the "Let's Go!" that you hear at the beginning of the level. You may turn off sound - that would be good speed growth.
Jurrassic Park 2
Stops at the intro screen, cant be played!
Legend of Zelda, The: A Link to the Past
When in dungeons and possibly other places, setting the "priority by tile" setting to BG2 makes you appear underneath overpasses like you should. In the overworld, set it back to None.
Name entry works fine now, as does the rain effect in the beginning. Overall, incredibly playable.
Mega Man 7
Cannot see the contents of the Start menu, and the beginning intro suffers from major flickering, but everything else works fine.
Mega Man X
Game plays near perfect however there is layering issues that make text unreadable so change the layers to 1/2/0/3 and the text is visible and everything else looks the same. The game runs smoothly, but some users may experience the game not recording their progress after completing a level. This is caused by a bad ROM and not the emulator.
Mega Man X2
v0.5b Unplayable, can't be seen the characters and objetcs no matter how you configure the layers, the intro in the beginning looks fine but later the graphics fails. Also, causes a bug in SNEmulDS, showing garbage in the GUI. THIS IS BECAUSE THE GAME USES A SPECIAL GRAPHICS CHIP FOR THE SPRITES AND EFFECTS. IT WILL NOT BE PLAYABLE IN SNEMULDS UNLESS EMULATION FOR THAT CHIP IS SUPPORTED (NOT LIKELY TO HAPPEN.)
Mortal Kombat
Plays great, graphics in menu are glitchy, character select is seeable, lifebars are glitchy, plays best if you turn all BGs off.
Mortal Kombat 2
Least buggiest of all the MK games. No vblank, speed hack off, turn off bg3 to get rid of the glichy lifebars, some stages may need bg1 or bg2 turned off as well, for complete satisfaction turn them all off :p
Mortal Kombat 3
Turn the BGs off, runs at a nice playable speed, if characters go off screen from an uppercut or jumping, game may crash, same when they are knocked into another arena.
Prince of Persia 2
v0.4b Some incorrect layer display, speed runs at 50%-75% using full speedhack. Level-1(rooftops) is playable, got intro of level-2 but freezes(black screen)? Best settings: see the new chart for v0.4b
On The Ball
Game runs best in v0.4 Final, not the v0.5 alphas or betas. This is because in order to maintain full speed, the older but faster Tile engine must be used. In addition, using the "Interrupt" speedhack in later versions causes the board to go crazy when you move a direction. When played in v0.4 Final with no vblank, interrupt speedhack, and tile engine, you get 100% speed but you can't see the HUD at the top with the remaining time. Changing to the line-by-line engine makes the HUD show up, but speed drops to 75%. Running the game in the v0.5 alphas or betas gives a max speed of 60-65% as the slower Cycles speedhack must be used.
Primal Rage
Very problematic to start up. For best chance to reach title screen, turn On Sound and use Cycles Speed Hack through the company inro (do not Load State) and press Start to get title screen. Switch to either Interrupt Speed Hack or Full Speed Hacks and press Start Game and then 1P Game.
Sometimes you will be able to fully see the Character Selection Screen with full sprites. Most times you will get a white screen and bits of the music playing.
However, at this point the game will freeze and crash SNEmuld. The SNEmuld menu will become corrupted. Just switch off and on the DS.
R-Type III
Save States don't seem to work. Sometimes graphics glitch [noticable during encounter with red mecha and the 1st boss]. 1st boss does this teleporting glitch which makes it much harder to beat. Game could freeze between levels.
Radical Dreamers
The game's text, on BG3, is displayed beneath the SPR layer (so sprites often obscure text. As this is a text adventure game, this can be a problem). Sound works well, with occasional skipping. Graphics glitches sometimes occur -- most noticably on the horizontally-scrolling trees during the game intro. If you press A to skip to the title screen during this sequence, the title screen is corrupted as well (but not otherwise).
Secret of Mana
v0.5b - The game is extremely playable. Some minor graphical glitches still remain with the settings from the chart above (e. g. hero doesn't get partially covered behind a house, if you walk through a an archway your heros are on top, ...), text boxes flicker and the status overview, level informatation etc is still unreadable. Somehow the game slows down to about 50% in the ring menu (but it only "feels" that slow when buying/selling items) but runs great in the normal gameplay. The sound is almost perfect. When chain-casting spells it can get high pitched and can temporarily screw up the complete sound. I have played as far as the ice country without any problems! :)
Shadowrun
The game works fine, except for some cosmetic issues and a couple points where the game will freeze unless sound is disabled.
Cosmetic: Some transparency issues, character pictures garbled (In start menu and during conversations), Text will remain on-screen until it is overlapped. If the garbled graphic in the start menu is obstructing your view, you can disable the SPR layer to get rid of it. The matrix is a bit jumpy, IC messages do not appear, the health and data bar rise, and the character is also slightly mis-alligned on the grid.
NOTICE: This game can cause SnemulDS to become unstable. If you notice strange graphical glitching (A tell-tale is abnormal main menu text after a reset) or other things (Can't move while sound is enabled, etc.) Save your state immediately, turn off your DS, and restart SnemulDS to remedy this. [Seems to be a sound related issue]
- Disable sound before getting your cortex bomb removed.
- Disable sound before entering the crypt level of the Dark Blade Society's building.
Sky Blazer
Two of the bosses are invisible use these steps to defeat them. Get the game to start with sound Then do a few kicks to make sure you can hear him attack, then turn the sound off and continue to play. When you reach the invisible bosses turn the sound back on so that you can hear the bosses getting hit(turn the sound back off after the battle is over). The in-game graphics are OK, but the world map is garbled. I recommend playing the game first on your snes or snes emulator to know where to go and what to do.
Super Bomberman 2
v0.6a Background now visible and sprites appear correctly. Sound works well. To get a decent Speed you will need to set scaling to none and have Yscroll at +24. Also set speed to fast.
Super Double Dragon / Return of Double Dragon
There is a 30 second loading period before the title screen and some 10 second ones between missions. However, unless you turn on the Interrupt speed hack, it will be a VERY long time before you see anything. Also, you might want to save state after the title screen.
Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts
Stated speed is around 70-80% but it's much slower than that in actuality.
Super Mario All-Stars
SMB1 - change to or 2301 if HUD becomes invisible (underground, etc) SMB2 - change to 3333 to see slot machines SMB3 - change to 2301 to see text in Toad Houses
Super Mario World
To make the castle bosses visible, simply set it to No Vblank for a second and then change it back to Wait Vblank. Sometimes it lags, but No Vblank is too fast so you must use Wait Vblank.
Super Metroid
Very playable. Transparencies are somewhat glitchy but aren't too much of a big deal. When scrolling, it takes a brief period for the screen to refresh itself, so you'll see artifacts from the previous area for a split second. Switch to 2031 to see some bosses, though this sometimes makes the energy meter and missile counts invisible.
Super Ninja Boy
Opening animation is broken. Intro works with transparency issues around the border. Once you start the game, things seem alright, but when you enter the first town issues become apparent. Stores will sometimes work, sometimes not. Sometimes talking to townspeople after using the store will cause townspeople to show store items instead of their speech. When walking around the world map, the terrain will change making it a very difficult and grueling process to navigate (The terrain will refresh after combat). No sound.
Super Turrican
The background is glitched out, but it doesn't effect gameplay.
Tetris Attack
Game runs well in v0.5 Beta with No Vblank set.
The rising row of blocks doesn't rise, but the cursor does, so right before the new row appears you end up flipping tiles nearly one full row beneath the cursor, though the game is still playable. More info can be found in this PH topic
Turning BG2 off is not necessary in v0.5 Beta but makes gameplay look better in v0.4 Final.
Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose
Press start prior to the Konami logo's completion or the game will lock up. Diagonal scrolling may garble background layer graphics.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3
Same as MK3 really turn off all BGs. The speed varies depending on the stge i think, some levels will play 87% while slow downs bring it down to about 67% glitches are the same as MK3
U.N. Squadron
Set the Mode 3 option to Squish or Squish More in order to see the HUD better.
Ultima - Runes of Virtue II
v0.5a - If you have trouble with crashes game in movie - skip it
Wing Commander
Very glitchy until ingame.
Yoshi's Cookie
Very difficult to read options menu, but after that, gameplay is fine.
Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Set BG3 to Off if you want to enter a password
