Guide
Here we shall explain how to set your card in order to connect to Nintendo wifi connection
Requirements
This is what you need for using your wifi-me able card to connect to Nintendo wifi connection:
- A wireless PCI or PCMCIA card using the Ralink RT2500 chipset, as listed in the PCI and PCMCIA columns on this page
- A broadband internet connection
- A Nintendo DS
- A Nintendo Wifi connection enabled DS game
Guide
- First uninstall your current driver, wifime or normal
- Then install this driver: The old url no longer works, use the new link to the gigabyte software access point, the new link is also dead, use this one or this one - Install it via the setup.exe in the utility dir.
- Special Note:
Linksys WMP54G v4 owners need modified *.inf drivers;
Depending on your OS, go to the appropriate folder in the DRIVER directory, and use
notepad to edit RT2500.inf. Add the following lines under the DisplayName subheader:
(in the WINXPAP dir)
"%GIGABYTE_WIKG.DeviceDesc% =GIGABYTE.ndi, PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0201&SUBSYS_00321737"
(in the WINXPSTA under the Ralink Subheader)
"%Ralink.DeviceDesc% = RALINK.ndi, PCI\VEN_1814&DEV_0201&SUBSYS_00321737"
- Then after installation, and a reboot, right click on the tray icon, and switch to AP mode:
- Then you get this window here. Set the wireless mode to B only, and for SSID fill in the name you want to name your network. "duck nds wifi" for me
- Then go to your network connections, double click on the network connection you get your internet from, most of the times should be some LAN connection, then go to the advanced tab, turn on sharing with other computers, select your wifi connection in the tab.
- Then click on settings, and turn on everything to be sure. Although you probably need less, I have no idea which ones you exactly need :)
- Now it should work, start your DS, go to Nintendo wifi settings, scan access point, and it should show up. If not, try checking if you have a firewall, and if so turn it off.
One note is that you probably leave your network wide open like this, and your neighbour or something could start leeching your internet connection, and maybe browse your network?. If you have a problem with this you could try assigning a WEP key to your network, and your DS will still be able to connect to the wireless network if you enter the WEP key in its settings.
Without ICS
- Maybe your Network setup does not allow you to enable "Internet Connection Sharing". In this case you can enable IP Forwarding in your windows installation How to Enable TCP/IP Forwarding in Windows XP and bridge the lan adapter and the wlan adapter Configuring Windows XP as a Network Bridge. Then you have to modify the connection settings in the WFC connection settings for this configuration.
Disable "Auto-obtain IP Address" and configure...
For example my home network setup:
DSL --> Router --> PC --Wireless PC Adapter with Ralink chipset--> NDS
