Independent

Independent is not a group, but a label put on releases coming from a source that is not an established release group. Independent releases have made a considerable contribution to the GBC, GBA and DS scenes.
These can be releases which have been dumped and released by an individual person with no group affiliation.
They can also be Games which have been repackaged as iND to avoid associating them with a particular group.
If a game has been sourced from an http web site it is often repackaged and released under the iND label. This typically occurs with obscure Japanese releases which the major release groups have passed over. It is considered bad etiquette to repackage web releases as a Scene group.
As an alternative to iND packing, sometimes Joke Groups are used to release things that established groups don't want to be associated with.
iND and joke groups can also be used for releasing things the dumper know in advance will be nuked but they still want to get out there without losing credits and scene points for their real group.
