Hvca

From PHWiki

HVCA is an NES and Famicon emulator for the GBA with many mappers supported. It can play .nes and .fds files, although the latter requires the Famicom's disksys.rom file. It has a scaling mode that PocketNES doesn't, which scales down the screen by removing the top and bottom of tiles. This makes for example text in RPGs appear much clearer than in the blended scaling PocketNES does. The newer versions can also play NSF files, which makes HVCA the first known GBA NSF player that doesn't require the use of Pogoshell. HVCA can be used as a Pogoshell plugin, but it can also run on its own, using a batch file to replicate the functionality of the PocketNES Menu Maker and other similar programs.

Currently, the HVCA.CFG file format is not understood.

Instructions

1. Go to this website and click on the word AGB: http://mc68882.s53.xrea.com

2. Download "hvca-v1.0-bin.lzh"

3. Uncompress this file with the included folder structure. To do this, you will need a program that can understand the .lzh format. Recommended software for Windows based Operating Systems is XacRett or WinRAR.

4. Create a new folder in the hvca directory and name it "ADD".

5. Copy all the .nes, .nsf, and .fds files that you wish to use into that "ADD" folder. If you want to play FDS games you'll also need the FDS BIOS, usually called "disksys.rom", there. Note that some users have had issues using a 40 KB disksys.rom file, while a different 8 KB one downloaded from somewhere else worked. [1]

7. Some games need special config (*.CFG) files, these are located in the folder "CFG". Just copy the ones you need to the "ADD" folder and rename them according to the ROM Images you want to use.

8. Run the "merge.bat" file, select your flash card type, and you'll see the filesize of "hvca.bin" increase as the mapper files and your files are added into it. Now simply run hvca.bin in a GBA emulator or flash it directly to a flash cart.
Note that when using VisualBoy Advance, you might need to delete the hvca.sav file after each use
