Device Hook (or DevHook for short) is a firmware and UMD/ISO launcher created by BOOSTER. Much like UMD Emulator, DevHook is the evolution of Hook Boot, first released on August 27, 2005. DevHook currently runs firmware 3.03 in RAM so 1.50 users can run the 3.03 firmware features and any games that would require that firmware.

DevHook was always seen to be in UMD Emulator's shadow, it had a smaller compatibility list, had less features and wasn't updated as much - it was always seen as a secondary source of loading games. With the advent of DevHook 0.42 on July 4, 2006, the application has instantly become the single necessary file for any homebrew user, boasting new features and a greater compatibility.

Throughout July 2006, Device Hook was given many updates, the most notable of course being when firmwares 2.50, 2.60 and then 2.71 successfully being emulated to allow practically all ISO dumps to be played. Version 0.45 of DevHook even allowed for homebrew files to be converted to be read by 2.71 and then run on 2.71 using DevHook - this is not classed as an exploit as DevHook is simply emulating 2.71 firmware and the homebrew is being run by the 1.50 firmware to create a pseudo-2.71 homebrew compatibility.

Version 0.46 allowed users to install DevHook into the PSPs Flash ROM memory, this allowed more space on the memory stick but also meant that people had to take a risk using the program. It wasn't as popular as previous versions and wasn't promoted as much due to the risks of bricking the PSP.

Following 3.0 firmware decryption, DevHook was again updated to load 3.0 firmware files from the memory stick. However, features that 3.0 included such as Remote Play and playback of Playstation Store titles were not working. As of writing, these two features continue to be non functioning in even the latest version of DevHook.

With Dark_Alex's Open Edition firmwares, DevHook continues to decrease in use. The program is used only by homebrew users that refuse to leave firmware version 1.50 for one of Dark_Alex's dual kernel firmwares. (The latest of which is 3.10OE-A')

Device Hook is released with the source code so other users can make modifications to personalise the program or to add extra features. Popular customisations include USB Modification and Screenshot button attachment.

On August 2 2006, BOOSTER received a cease and desist from Sony due to one of the DevHook releases containing copyrighted material by Sony in the form of a 'reboot.bin' file. BOOSTER's website was shut down and his development on DevHook was stopped.
